Around fifty vehicles have been covered with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Cars, exterior walls and postboxes were defaced, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Law enforcement report they were contacted late on Wednesday night, when a man observed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued liquid.
The fluid had been drawn in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then located numerous other smeared vehicles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under legislation outlawing the public display of Nazi symbols.
Officials state preliminary tests show the liquid was probably human blood.
"Currently there is no lead as to its origin; investigators are currently not informed of any harm in relation with the occurrence," they commented.
Municipal representatives stated they were trying "to solve the case" and have requested to the public for information.
A high-ranking official stated the incident rendered him stunned and required to be addressed rapidly.
"This incident hits the very heart of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the right-wing violent incident half a decade ago," he stated on online, mentioning the death of nine victims by a gunman targeting people of immigrant origin in 2020.
