19 of the Russian's 21 championships have been earned on hardcourt

A comeback the Russian player won his first championship for 882 days with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

Medvedev, a ex- top-ranked player, has experienced a challenging year, achieving just one match at the Grand Slams and experiencing a meltdown at the American major.

His inconsistency on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serve in specific - led to him exiting of the world's top 10 and ultimately splitting with long-time mentor Cervara.

Now training with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently progressed in the past month - culminating in a hard-fought three-set win over opponent Corentin Moutet.

This marks his first title after the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hardcourt from March of the previous year.

Success also indicates Medvedev has secured 21 titles at 21 various competitions.

"It's the first time I have attended a event with my children at once, so to get a title is especially meaningful," commented ranked player Medvedev.

"This title is in tribute of my second daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I achieved when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had been defeated in his previous six championship matches, featuring in that event earlier this year.

His counter-punching approach and frequent reactions on court had prompted commentators to wonder if his capacity to perform at the top level was over.

Yet the 29-year-old has made changes in the last few weeks, attempting to advance forward and compete aggressively, reinforced by an enhanced service.

He came back from a deficit in the initial set against the tricky Moutet, taking four of the concluding five points to go ahead.

The pair exchanged break points in the second set before Moutet, bidding for his maiden tour victory, seized the initiative to create a third set.

Moutet saved four early opportunities in a tight deciding set before Medvedev broke to 15 to close out the victory.

Appropriately, he earned the title with a shot at the net, with the Frenchman incapable to control a return after over two and a half hours.
