The Gaming Giant Brings Onboard Apex Legends Developer to Boost Troubled Hero Shooter Ambitious Title

The renowned publisher has welcomed a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to direct the development team at their internal studio, which is currently crafting the anticipated over-the-shoulder roguelike extraction-shooter known as this innovative game.

Leadership Shift Follows Mixed Reception

Brinkman assumes the leadership position at the development studio following the exit of former leader Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' disappointing early showing last autumn.

On Wednesday, 2K president a key figure notified employees about this decision through an internal memo, which highlighted that playtesting had revealed the necessity for a more defined vision.

Ismailer noted that the developers is now reimagining Project Ethos with a renewed focus, aiming to satisfy player expectations.

A Pattern of Key Hires

The news echoes a comparable step taken by the publisher in August, when they recruited Rod Fergusson from Blizzard to work on the beloved franchise development group.

Here is the entire text from Ismailer's announcement:

Dear Team—

I understand you all just wrapped up your meeting - I trust you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the good news. Last time I shared you all a message, I mentioned the following: “I am confident in this group. You all are some of the most dedicated and creative designers we have had the chance to work with - and we’re eager for that collaboration to persist.”

With your dedication and flexibility, particularly over the last year, you consistently demonstrate that.

The community feedback from last fall’s Project ETHOS playtest was enlightening. It validated the potential of a roguelike shooter but indicated we still had refinements needed. It highlighted the requirement for a sharper brand.

The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve progressed. You accepted the feedback to consideration and revamped the title with a refreshed vision - one that’s poised to fulfill its potential to our players.

The trust in this project strengthens every day. To boost the remarkable advancement you’ve made, I am thrilled to announce the new hire as the incoming Studio Head of the team. Following some time of conversations, Ben starts with us on the specified date.

Ben’s management and experience in the PVP shooter genre is extensive, having dedicated the past decade and a half producing and leading some of the most well-known series in the industry, such as the acclaimed shooter, and more recently, Apex Legends.

I invite you all in welcoming him next week. We are all excited to persist seeing the progress of the game in the months to ahead.

The President

Background of the New Leader

Game Information and Vision

Project Ethos was unveiled in last year alongside a public demo. Initially, 31st Union presented the title as a "free-to-play, third-person perspective roguelike hero shooter and an innovative advancement on the category."

"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Build your hero in live gameplay to fit your unique tactics," the official summary explains. "Take on the opponents with new abilities, risks, and tests that shift every round. Will you safely extract with your collected items? Or take a risk, risk it all, and trust your squad can achieve the highest spot? The choice is yours."

The game has not yet received an official debut schedule or supported systems, but players can look forward to further news as production continues.
